Blackie Onassis died on Wednesday, June 14, 2023, however, his cause of death was not announced. His age at the time of death is also not known. He was a singer and drummer of the Chicago-based alt-rock trio Urge Overkill in the early ’90s.

The band opened for Nirvana’s Nevermind tour in 1991. After their phenomenal performance, the band was signed by Geffen Records. Urge Overkill was made up of singer and guitarist, Nash Kato and Eddie King Roeser, while Onassis drummed and sang as well.

Onassis played an integral part in the group’s ’90s albums; The Supersonic (1991), Saturation (1993), and Exit the Dragon (1995). Two of these albums debuted on the Billboard 200, while Sister Havana off the Saturation album reached the Top 10 of the Modern Rock and Mainstream Rock tallies.
Kato also released a solo disc that featured almost half of its songs co-opened with Onassis in 2000, while the band took a break. Roeser also returned to the band in 2005 and went on tour with the band, however, Onassis was omitted.
