Billy Packer, a longtime college basketball analyst and iconic Final Four broadcaster, died on Thursday, January 26 2023, according to his sons. He was 82.

Billy Packer’s son, Mark, told The Associated Press that his father died of kidney failure after dealing with various health issues in North Carolina for several weeks.
Billy Packer has called college basketball for more than three decades and has worked on 34 Final Four broadcast teams for both NBC and CBS.

From 1981 to 2008, he worked as a CBS analyst, quickly becoming one of the sport’s most prominent voices, calling games alongside Jim Nantz, Brent Musburger, Dick Enbert, Curt Gowdy, and others.
His first Final Four appearance came in 1975 when UCLA and coach John Wooden won the championship. His most recent victory came against Memphis in 2008.

Billy Packer received a Sports Emmy for Outstanding Sports Personality, Studio and Sports Analyst in 1993. He worked with many of the top play-by-play broadcasters of his era, including Curt Gowdy, Dick Enberg, Brent Musburger and Jim Nantz.
