Yet, his net worth has been estimated to be $2 million by several sources.

The veteran coach had been part of nearly a dozen college and NFL staffs over the last 38 years, but his final stop was in Westwood. McGovern missed the final five games of last fall’s regular season due to health issues, which turned out to be related to his battle with cancer.

McGovern spent a year as the Chicago Bears’ inside linebackers coach before joining Kelly’s staff in Westwood. McGovern has nine years of NFL coaching experience, having served as a linebackers coach for the Philadelphia Eagles from 2013 to 2015 and the New York Giants from 2016 to 2019.

McGovern has previously coached at Holy Cross, UMass, Pittsburgh, and, most recently, Nebraska as a defensive assistant in 2020. He is now nominated for the College Football Hall of Fame.

McGovern, who was born on December 31, 1962, attended Holy Cross College and was a four-year starter at defensive back. With 24 interceptions, he set a career NCAA Division I-AA record. He was named a consensus first-team Division I-AA All-American during his senior year 1984.
