Born to Tony Kearse and Rowena Patton, his journey from the streets of Savannah, Georgia, to the pinnacle of the music world is a testament to his talent, determination, and early influences.

Patton’s early life was rooted in Savannah, where he spent the formative years of his childhood. Attending Herschel V. Jenkins High School, he laid the groundwork for his future musical endeavors.

In pursuit of his musical aspirations, Big Boi made a pivotal move to Atlanta during the latter part of his childhood, where he resided with his aunt Renee. It was here that he attended Tri-Cities High School, a renowned visual and performing arts magnet school that would shape his artistic journey.

Patton’s family played a crucial role in shaping his eclectic musical taste. He  credited his grandmother with getting him interested in music by sending him and his siblings to the store to buy 45 records

He also  credited his uncle with broadening his musical horizons, introducing him to the diverse sounds of artists like Kate Bush.

Bush, whom he has fondly described as his favorite artist, left an indelible mark on Big Boi’s musical sensibilities, contributing to the unique fusion of styles that would define his future work.
