Dr. Ato Forson attributed this significant decision to the prevailing economic downturn in Ghana.

He lamented that neighboring countries in the sub-region are reaping the benefits of Ghana’s crisis, with companies opting to relocate their manufacturing activities to more favorable environments.

Speaking following President Akufo-Addo’s 2024 State of the Nation address on Monday, March 11, Dr. Ato Forson, who represents Ajumako-Enyan-Essiam, urged the Akufo-Addo administration to swiftly implement measures to address the dire economic situation.

Highlighting the discontent among Ghanaian youth with the nation’s management, Dr. Ato Forson stressed that this should be a matter of grave concern for all individuals in positions of authority.

“Mr. Speaker, I am saddened to announce that the esteemed BIC, a leading pen manufacturer, has ceased production in Ghana. It has relocated its operations to Ivory Coast,” Dr. Ato Forson stated.

He continued, “By shifting BIC’s pen production to Ivory Coast, we have effectively exported those jobs. This development spells bad news for Ghanaian employees!”

Furthermore, Dr. Ato Forson drew attention to another concerning development, stating, “Again, Mr. Speaker, Unilever Ghana, renowned for producing its famous Lipton tea in Ghana, has halted tea production here. Unilever has relocated its tea production to Nigeria.”

The revelations made by the Minority Leader underscore the gravity of Ghana’s economic challenges and the urgent need for decisive action to reverse the trend. As companies opt to relocate their operations, Ghana risks losing valuable employment opportunities and experiencing further economic decline.

It remains to be seen how the government will respond to these developments and what measures will be implemented to address the pressing economic challenges facing the nation.
