Betty Shabazz was an American educator and civil rights activist who became a household name due to her marriage to Malcolm X. Betty and Malcolm X exchanged vows and had six children together: Attallah, Qubilah, Ilyasah, Gamilah Lumumba, Malikah and Malaak Shabazz.

Betty Shabazz was renamed Betty X after she joined her husband in the Nation of Islam in the mid-1950s. Betty Shabazz became a single widow after her husband, Malcolm X, was assassinated tone year after they left the Nation of Islam in 1964.
