It was redemption for Silva after his poor penalty played a crucial role in City’s loss to Real on penalties.

The Portuguese midfielder netted the winner at the far post from Kevin de Bruyne’s cross six minutes from time.

Chelsea will rue missing numerous chances, with almost all of them falling to striker Nicolas Jackson, as they endured another heartbreaking Wembley experience following the extra-time defeat on penalties against Liverpool in the Carabao Cup final.

Chelsea also believe they were on the receiving end of an injustice, as they were outraged that they were not awarded a second-half penalty when Cole Palmer’s free-kick hit Jack Grealish’s hand in the wall. However, the video assistant referee ruled that no offense had occurred.
