Born on July 16, 2001, in Atlanta, Georgia, Sheppard played high school basketball at Greater Atlanta Christian, and college basketball at Belmont University, where he studied Sports Administration.

As a freshman at Belmont appeared in 32 games and was named an OVC Freshman of the Week. He recorded multiple rebounds in 24 games and scored 18 points in a game against Carson-Newman.

As a junior, he averaged 14.7 points, 3.2 rebounds and 4.4 assists per game, and as a senior, he averaged 17.2 points, 5.6 rebounds and 6.1 assists per game.

Sheppard won the Most Valuable Player Award at the 2018 Georgia Class AAA state championship game, where he recorded over 1,000 career points.

In 2021, Sheppard was named to the All-OVC First Team, the Georgia All-Region Team, and ranked number 5 in OVC scoring.
