Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has initiated the distribution of thousands of computer tablets to students at Opoku Ware School in Kumasi as part of the government’s ‘One Student, One Tablet’ programme.

During the ceremony, Dr. Bawumia also inaugurated a smart school block and observed the inaugural lessons in the classrooms.
This initiative fulfills the government’s promise to enhance an ICT-driven environment for teaching and learning among Ghanaian students.
Addressing the audience in Kumasi, Dr. Bawumia highlighted that the tablets are pre-loaded with textbooks, sample examination questions, and other educational resources to support effective teaching and learning.
“The government’s long-term vision underscores ongoing reforms in our education system,” Dr. Bawumia stated. “Over the past seven years, we have been committed to creating conducive environments, investing in technology-driven education, providing training and incentives for teachers, and enhancing student infrastructure and equipment.”

He emphasized the uniqueness of Ghana’s initiative, stating, “No other country in Africa, and very few globally, including the US and Estonia, known for digital advancement, has embarked on such an initiative to provide complete educational materials like tablets to students. Ghana is setting the pace for the continent.”
“We are making significant investments now with future returns in mind, fully aware that every cedi invested will yield worthwhile dividends,” he added.
Expressing his satisfaction with the programme’s rollout, Reverend Father Stephen Owusu Sekyere, Headmaster of Opoku Ware Senior High School and National President of the Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary Schools (CHASS), stressed the importance of preparing students for the evolving world.
“I am delighted that despite the challenges, the programme has successfully commenced, particularly here at Opoku Ware School. Having the Vice President championing this initiative is a testament to its significance,” Rev. Sekyere remarked.
He also urged students to handle the tablets with care.
Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, Minister of Education, reiterated the government’s unwavering commitment to delivering modern and high-quality education to Ghanaian children.
