Major League Baseball (MLB) and the MLB Players Association (MLBPA) reached an agreement on a new collective bargaining agreement (CBA) today, putting an end to a 99-day lockout that began in early December 2021 and finished with the new pact being confirmed by the players and subsequently by the owners.

So there you have it. Baseball will be played in 2022. And it’s scheduled to begin on April 7th.

That doesn’t leave much time for a shortened Spring Training and the ensuing rush of free agency signings and trades when teams start up where they left off when they couldn’t reach an agreement on a CBA and the lockout began three months ago.
The announcement comes just a day after MLB stated it would be cutting the second week of games from the schedule, although that does not appear to be the case anymore. Teams will play complete 162-game seasons, with doubleheaders added to fill out the schedule.
