He later left the Air Force in 1992.

He bagged his Associate of Applied Science in 1987 from the Community College of the Air Force.

He also received his Bachelor of Science degree from Wayland Baptist University in 1992.

The Georgia representative ventured into politics in 2001 as chairman of the Bartow County Republican Party, a position he occupied for 3 years.

In 2010, he was sworn in to the Senate House, where he chaired the Senate Science and Technology Committee and as Secretary to the Veterans, Military and Homeland Security and Public Safety Committees.

In addition, Barry served in the Senate Transportation Committee.

Barry was once a member of the Freedom Caucus and has approval from the evangelical Christian minister David Barton.
