Barbara Hovey Novaes, 61, was discovered dead in a recycle bin on the back porch of her duplex at 21 Emery St. on Monday, May 23 morning.

Barbara’s son, who is in his twenties, called Medford police at 6:40 a.m. to report that he couldn’t find his mother after waking up. The young man stated that he last saw his mother around 4.30 pm on Sunday, May 22 at their shared home.

According to Ryan, the Middlesex District Attorney, the son of Hovey Novaes told officers that when he woke up on Monday morning, the front door to the house was left open. He further stated that his mother’s car was still on the property and that he discovered her car keys, phone, and purse inside the house.
“This is being investigated as a suspicious death based on the circumstances and the location of the body,” Ryan added. The cause and circumstances of Hovey Novaes’ death will be determined by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.
