Barbara Cooper, a Tennessee State Representative passed away in October 2022, at the age of 93. Her cause of death has not been made public.

Barbara Cooper was the Democratic representative for Shelby County’s District 86. Cooper graduated from Manassas High School in Memphis and was a retired educator, community relations specialist, and parent coordinator, according to the Tennessee General Assembly.

She served on several committees, including the State Government and Agriculture and Natural Resources Committees. In 2019, she was inducted into the Memphis-Shelby County Schools Hall of Fame.

Cooper has served as a member of the Tennessee House of Representatives since the late 1990s. She was running for re-election to the District 86 seat in the upcoming November 8, 2022,andhistory-makerRepresentatives election.

Representative Cooper was not only the oldest legislator in Tennessee when she died but also the second-oldest state legislator in the country and the oldest Democrat.
