Valeri Nichushkin, a forward for the Colorado Avalanche, has been suspended for at least six months, according to an announcement made just over an hour before the team’s Monday game against the Dallas Stars.

The news came as a blow to the Avalanche, who ultimately suffered a 5-1 loss to the Stars.
Colorado Avalanche coach Jared Bednar emphasized that the team wouldn’t allow Nichushkin’s suspension to serve as an excuse for their performance.
Despite the setback, Bednar stressed the importance of focusing on playing their best hockey moving forward.

The reason for Nichushkin’s suspension was not disclosed, as he was placed in Stage 3 of the NHL/NHL Players’ Association player assistance program. This news was unexpected for his teammates, who learned of the situation shortly before the game.
Following the game, Avalanche defenseman Jack Johnson commented briefly on Nichushkin’s situation, indicating that he had made his decisions.
The NHL/NHLPA player assistance program has several stages, with Stage 3 resulting in a suspension without pay for at least six months. This means that Nichushkin will be sidelined until at least mid-November.
Nichushkin’s absence from the lineup is significant, as he was the team’s leading playoff goal scorer with nine goals and 10 points in eight games.
The Avalanche now find themselves facing a challenging situation, having lost three consecutive games since their Game 1 victory, and are now on the brink of elimination in the Western Conference semifinals.
