Aston Barrett’s passing comes shortly before the release of the Bob Marley biopic, “Bob Marley: One Love,” where his character will be portrayed by his son, Aston Barrett Jr. Barrett’s legacy endures through his influential contributions to reggae music.

Aston “Family Man” Barrett’s musical journey began by singing along to soul tunes on the radio, later transitioning to the bass guitar. Notably, Barrett crafted his first bass guitar from plywood, a curtain rod, and an old ashtray.

In a 2007 interview with Bass Player magazine, Aston “Family Man” Barrett described his approach to playing the bass as akin to singing, stating, “When I’m playing the bass, it’s like I’m singing. I compose a melodic line and see myself like I’m singing baritone.”
