Arthur Schmidt (Film Editor) Cause of Death

American film editor, Arthur Schmidt has been reported dead. According to sources, he died at his home in Santa Barbara, California, on August 5, 2o23, at the age of 86.

Born on June 17,  1937, Arthur Schmidt learned a lot from his father Arthur P. Schmidt who was also a film editor. He graduated from Santa Clara University with a bachelor’s degree in English.  He started his career in the 1970s editing films like The Las Remake of Beau Gate, Jaw 2, The Jericho Mile, and more.

In 1989, he won the Academy Award for Best Film Editing for Who Framed Roger Rabbit. He also won another Academy Award for his work on Forrest Gump (1994). He also won several editor’s awards including American Cinema Editors for Pirate of the Caribbean: The Curse of Black Pearl. 

Schmidt was nominated for the BAFTA Award for Best Editing for several movies such as Coal Miner’s Daughter (1980), Back to the Future (1985), The Last of the Mohicans (1992), and Cast Away (2000). His last award was the 2009 American Cinema Editors Career Achievement Award.
