Denny Hamlin, a three-time winner of the Daytona 500, and NBA star Michael Jordan Michael have been friends for decades. Jordan and Denny Hamlin’s friendship began at a then-Charlotte Bobcats game in 2009, and it has grown tremendously since then.

Despite their different backgrounds, the NASCAR Cup Series competitor and the former Chicago Bulls player “become fast friends” in no time.
In 2011, Hamlin became the first NASCAR driver to join the Jordan Brand and their friendship only developed from there. During an ESPN appearance, Hamlin indicated how close the two are.

“First and foremost, he’s a fantastic friend. Aside from our friendship, and keeping the Jordan brand in mind, he’s first and foremost a buddy,” Hamlin said, adding that Jordan is one of the most supportive people he’s ever encountered. When Hamlin doesn’t come in first, he always has the finest counsel to give his friend. ‘Keep digging, these obstacles in the way happen,’ he says.
Hamlin and Jordan have played golf together for several years and share a deep passion for basketball. Their friendship led to the pair creating their own NASCAR team: 23XI Racing.
