After the Byrds disbanded, both Gene and Gram Parsons found themselves in the Flying Burrito Brothers, a band that would further solidify their connection. Gene Parsons, taking up the drums and contributing vocals, brought his musical sensibilities to the Burritos. His tenure marked a period of transition for the band, with a changing lineup and musical experimentation.

Gram Parsons married Nancy Ross and she had become pregnant. Gram didn’t relish the responsibility of being a father and unlike his character in Blue Eyes, he wanted Nancy to have an abortion. She refused and Parsons’ only child, Polly, was born in late 1967.
