Her father, Tom, worked for IBM, while her mother, Gunilla, worked in a bank. Charlotta, her younger sister, was also a professional golfer and LPGA Tour winner who later coached at her sister’s academy.

Annika and Charlotta Sörenstam were the first sisters on the LPGA Tour to win $1 million each. Sörenstam was a gifted all-around athlete as a youth.

She was a nationally rated junior tennis player, played association football for her hometown team Bro IK, and was such an excellent skier that the coach of the Swedish national ski team advised the family relocate to northern Sweden so she could develop her skiing all year.
