Ankhal in Critical Condition After Gunshots

Puerto Rican urban music singer Ankhal was seriously injured by a gunshot along with another man.

Ankhal, whose real name is Anthony Mercado Díaz, 21, and his friend identified as José De León, 25, had several gunshot wounds on their bodies.

The shooting incident occurred on Tuesday night on Las Flores Avenue, in the Florencio neighborhood of Fajardo.

Officials say the two were seated in a gray Lexus IS 250 when the shots rang out.

The two were transported to Río Piedras Medical Center in critical condition by paramedics.

Investigations are ongoing about the event to catch the perpetrators.

Latin artist Farruko shared a photo of himself and Ankhal on Instagram on Wednesday sending his solace to the 21-year-old.

“My son, because I have always seen you as my son with love and respect, I have not stopped praying for you since I found out what happened to you. I thank God that you are still alive,” Farruko wrote in Spanish.

“I even feel guilty because I opened the doors to fame for you and even though I did it with good intentions, not everyone knows how to handle this.”

The Latino artist has over 200,000 subscribers on YouTube and over 300,000 followers on Instagram.

Ankhal shot to fame with Anti Judas, an album that amassed more than 29 million combined streams, with the most successful song being, Si Pepe.

After catching the attention of Puerto Rican rapper Farruko, he signed with Carbon Fiber Music in 2019 and released one of his biggest hits to date, the Platinum-certified track, Perreo Intenso.

He released a new album last December, Anti Judas Reloaded, a version of his debut album that combines innovative rap and urban rhythms.

Ankhal has collaborated with big Latin artists such as Jhay Cortez, Myke Towers, Brray, et al.
