June had a stroke on February 27, 2006. She was diagnosed with cancer while in the hospital, and it had spread to her breast, colon, liver, and bones.

She died on April 11, 2006, at the age of 52, at UCLA Medical Center in Los Angeles, California.

Anita Pointer’s older brother, Aaron, is a retired baseball player and later NFL referee. He played in MLB for the Houston Colt .45’s/Astros in 1963 and 1966–67.
