Angus Gunn attended Alpington Primary School and Framingham Earl High School. Gunn began his career at his hometown club Norwich City, before moving to Manchester City in 2011.
Angus Gunn made his debut for the Southampton club on 28 August 2018 in an EFL Cup tie against Brighton & Hove Albion, and his Premier League debut on 2 January 2019, earning the Man of the Match award in a 0–0 draw against Chelsea.

In October 2020, Angus Gunn joined EFL Championship side Stoke City on loan for the 2020–21 season and made his debut on 27 October 2020 against Swansea City coming on as a half-time substitute for the injured Adam Davies.
Angus Gunn was selected in their squad for UEFA Euro 2024 qualifying matches that month. Gunn made his debut on 25 March 2023 against Cyprus at Hampden Park, keeping a clean sheet in a 3–0 UEFA Euro 2024 qualifying victory.
