Angelo Badalamenti Obituary

Angelo Badalamenti was an American composer. Angelo Badalamenti was born in Brooklyn, New York on March 22, 1937. He began taking piano lessons when he was eight years old.

By the time Badalamenti was a teenager, his talent at the piano had earned him a summer job accompanying singers at Catskill Mountain resorts.

He enrolled at the University of Rochester’s Eastman School of Music, but after two years transferred to the Manhattan School of Music, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in 1958 and a master’s degree in 1959.

Angelo Badalamenti is best known for his work on David Lynch’s films, including Blue Velvet, the Twin Peaks saga (1990-1992, 2017), The Straight Story, and Mulholland Drive.

Angelo Badalamenti won the Grammy Award for Best Pop Instrumental Performance in 1990 for his “Twin Peaks Theme.”

In 2008, he received a “Lifetime Achievement Award” from the World Soundtrack Awards’ academy, and in 2011, he received the “Henry Mancini Award” from the American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers.

Angelo Badalamenti passed away at his home in Lincoln Park, New Jersey, on December 11, 2022, at the age of 85. Following his death, several industry figures paid tribute to Badalamenti.
