Andrew Lloyd Webber was born on March 22, 1948, in Kensington, London to William Lloyd Webber and Jean Hermione Johnstone

His father William Lloyd Webber, Jean Hermione Johnstone was an organist and composer and his mother Jean Hermione Johnstone was a violinist and pianist.

Julian Lloyd Webber, his younger brother, is a world-renowned solo cellist. Lloyd Webber began writing his music when he was nine years old, with a suite of six pieces.

Andrew Lloyd Webber also put on “productions” in his toy theatre with Julian and his Aunt Viola. His aunt Viola, an actress, took him to many of her shows and introduced him to the world of theatre through the stage door.

In the spring of 1963, his father enrolled him as a part-time student at the Eric Gilder School of Music. He was working on a Genghis Khan musical called Westonia! at the time, and he had also composed music for Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats.

Andrew Lloyd Webber’s father William Lloyd Webber passed away in 1982 and his mother passed away in 1993.
