Swatting is the act of falsely reporting a serious crime to send a massive police presence to an unsuspecting target.
Barriss’ swatting habit finally went too far on December 28, 2017, when he phoned police and falsely said he fatally shot his father and was currently holding the rest of his family hostage at his home in Wichita, Kansas.
Officers thronged to the Wichita address, demanding everyone inside to come out.
Andrew Finch, the 28-year-old occupant of the residence, exited his home confused, raising and dropping his hands several times before an officer opened fire and killed him.

Andrew Finch was a family man from Wichita who lived on West McCormick Street.
Finch was a single father of two children, Danika and Aiden and on the night of his death, he was having a good time with his big family, made up of his mother and other extended family members.
Finch was shot to death in front of his house by Wichita Police Department officer Justin Rapp on December 28, 2018 following the “swatting call” made by Barriss.
