Amol Rajan has children. He and his wife Charlotte Faircloth have three children. He has a son called Winston, and a younger girl called Jamaica.

At the age of 18, Amol Rajan worked in the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) for one year during his gap year at college.

Amol Rajan joined The Independent newspaper in August 2007, where he worked as a news reporter, sports correspondent, columnist, comment editor, and editor of Independent Voices.

In August 2022, it was announced that Amol Rajan would take over from Jeremy Paxman as the host of the University Challenge from autumn 2023 onwards.
