American Rapper Chris King Fatally Shot in Nashville

American rapper Chris King, known for his close ties with artists like Trippie Redd and Justin Bieber, was tragically shot and killed in Nashville early Saturday morning, April 20, 2024. He was 32 years old.

Nashville homicide detectives reported that King, whose real name was Christopher Cheeks, was in the company of friends around 2:30 a.m. CT when three assailants attempted to rob the group.

During the altercation, both King and his 29-year-old friend were shot. While the 29-year-old victim was located and treated after fleeing, King succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at Vanderbilt Hospital.

The news of King’s untimely death prompted an outpouring of love and tributes on social media. Born in Fontana, California, King had formed deep connections within the music industry.

Justin Bieber, with whom King had a close friendship, shared a photo of the two hugging on his Instagram Story, expressing his grief with a broken-heart emoji and the words “Love you bro.” Bieber further lamented, “This one hurts. Please keep his family in your prayers. See you in paradise, brother.”

Actress and singer Keke Palmer also honored King’s memory with a heartfelt tribute on Instagram, recalling their shared experiences and moments of laughter. “Your kindness was present no matter what room you were in,” Palmer wrote, reminiscing about their time together. “Everybody was and wanted to be your friend. We will miss you until we meet again, rest heavenly brother.”

King’s final musical release, a song titled “Seeing Double,” came out on April 8. He had been in Tennessee to perform at the Nashville Cannafest on Friday night before the tragic incident occurred.
