Unfortunately, Aldridge’s singing career was cut short due to a throat injury, but she went on to have a successful career as a vocal teacher, pianist, and composer.

Aldridge used music to explore her mixed ethnic history, resulting in her creation of romantic Parlour music by merging numerous rhythmic influences and genres with poetry by Black American authors.
