Ama Ata Aidoo husband: Is Ama Ata Aidoo married?

Ama Ata Aidoo was a Ghanaian poet, playwright, and author. It is unknown at this time whether she was married at the time of her death or whether her husband died before her.

Ama Ata Aidoo died on May 31, 2023, at the age of 81.  In a statement, her family said “Our beloved relative and writer” passed away after a short illness, requesting privacy to allow them to grieve.

In a career spanning more than five decades, she was recognised internationally as one of the most prominent African writers of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries.

With the publication of her first play, The Dilemma of a Ghost, in 1965, Aidoo became the first published African woman dramatist. She was the Minister of Education in Ghana during the Jerry Rawlings administration and won the Commonwealth Writers’ Prize for Changes (1991). S

he founded the Mbaasem Foundation in 2000 to promote and support the work of African women writers. She also spent time living and teaching in the United States, Europe, and Zimbabwe. Her plays, such as Anowa, have been read in schools across West Africa, alongside works by other greats such as Wole Soyinka and Chinua Achebe.
