Alyssa Nakken was born on June 13, 1990, in Woodland, California, the United States to parents Robert Nakken and Gaye Nakken. She went to California State University, Sacramento, where she played college softball for the Sacramento State Hornets as a first baseman.

Alyssa Nakken graduated with a bachelor’s degree in psychology. She had been named to the All-Pacific Coast Softball Conference all four years and was also a three-time all-conference selection, as well as the 2012 conference Scholar-Athlete of the Year.

Alyssa Nakken later proceeded to the University of San Francisco where she earned a master’s degree in sports management in 2015. While at the University of San Francisco, she was the chief information officer for the baseball team.

In 2014, Alyssa Nakken joined the San Francisco Giants’ baseball operations department as an intern, working for them on health and wellness programs. Alyssa was promoted to the major league coaching staff as an assistant coach in January 2020. She is the first full-time female coach in MLB history as well as the first to coach on the field during a major league game.
