Ally Sheedy is an American actress and the daughter of Charlotte Baum and John J. Sheedy, Jr.

Ally Sheedy was born on June 13, 1962, in New York City, and has two siblings, Patrick and Meghan.

Her mother Charlotte is a writer and press agent who was active in the women’s and civil rights movements, and her father, John J. Sheedy Jr., is a Manhattan advertising executive.

Ally Sheedy’s mother is Jewish from Eastern Europe, and her father is Irish Catholic. Her maternal grandmother was from the Ukrainian city of Odesa. In 1971, her parents divorced.

Ally Sheedy attended Bank Street School for Children before moving on to Columbia Grammar & Preparatory School in New York City, where she graduated in 1980.

Following her film debut in Bad Boys in 1983, she became known as a member of the Brat Pack and starred in WarGames (1983), The Breakfast Club (1985), and Short Circuit (1986).
