Dr. Bawumia recently inaugurated an ultra-modern hostel facility and skills training center in Accra, aimed at providing decent accommodation and empowering head porters.
The facilities, situated in Madina and Ashaiman in the Greater Accra Region, fulfill a promise made by Dr. Bawumia on behalf of the government in 2019.
During the commissioning ceremony, Dr. Bawumia expressed his commitment to addressing the plight of marginalized segments of society, stating that the initiative resonates deeply with the government’s core values and mission.

The hostels boast 300 beds, training rooms, kitchens, clinics, and other amenities. Dr. Bawumia emphasized that the government’s objective is not only to provide accommodation but also to empower the head porters to become self-employed, thus preventing them from returning to the streets.
In addition to the hostel facilities, a Kayayei Empowerment Center has been established, offering training programs to equip the head porters with the necessary skills for self-sustainability.
Allotey Jacobs, former NDC Central Regional Chairman, praised Dr. Bawumia’s initiative, highlighting its significance as a crucial social intervention.
He described it as the second most significant achievement after the government’s Free SHS policy, emphasizing its positive impact on improving the lives of Ghanaians.
“This is a great achievement, a credit to Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia taking care of his own,” Allotey Jacobs remarked during an appearance on Peace FM’s “Kokrokoo” show.
