Riley has had an impressive club career, playing for teams in different countries. She started her professional career in 2008 with FC Gold Pride in the United States.

She then went on to play for clubs in Sweden, Norway, and Germany, including Malmo FF, Bayern Munich and Loan to FC Rosengård.

On the international stage, Ali Riley is a key player for the New Zealand women’s national team, often serving as the team’s captain. She has represented New Zealand in multiple FIFA Women’s World Cup and Olympic Games tournaments.

Her leadership and defensive skills have made her a vital player for the Football Ferns. She currently plays as a defender for Angel City of the American National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) where she is also a captain.

As a collegiate athlete, she captained the Stanford soccer team to two NCAA semi-finals and one final. Riley began hosting an Off the Ball show for the sports website Just Women’s Sports in 2021.
