Alex Lyon Parents: Meet Tim and Deb Lyon

Alexander Augustus Lyon, the talented goaltender for the Detroit Red Wings, has a remarkable journey that began in the picturesque town of Baudette, Minnesota.

Born on December 9, 1992, Lyon’s early years were uniquely shaped by the extraordinary environment in which he grew up.

For the first seven years of his life, Lyon, along with his older sister Sam, experienced a childhood like no other. Their home was an island in Lake of the Woods, where his parents, Tim and Deb Lyon, managed a fishing lodge.

This idyllic setting required young Lyon and his sister to row a boat to attend the small schoolhouse, creating a distinctive backdrop for their early education.

Tim and Deb Lyon, as fishing lodge managers, instilled a sense of adventure and resilience in their children. The family’s connection to the outdoors and the close-knit island community undoubtedly left a lasting impact on Lyon’s character.

In 2000, the Lyon family made the transition back to mainland Minnesota, marking a pivotal moment in Lyon’s life. It was at this juncture that he discovered his passion for hockey. The move from the island to the mainland opened up new opportunities, including the chance for Lyon to delve into the world of ice hockey.

Lyon’s journey in hockey began at Lake of the Woods High School, where he played a pivotal role as the goaltender during his senior year in 2009–10. Remarkably, of the 25 male students in his graduating class, 15 played ice hockey for the varsity team, showcasing the sport’s significance in the community.

During that memorable senior year, Lyon’s goaltending skills stood out, boasting an impressive .948 save percentage (SV%) in the 26 games he played. This early success laid the foundation for Lyon’s future in professional ice hockey.
