Alec Baldwin sued by Halyna Hutchins’ family

The family of Rust cinematographer Halyna Hutchins is suing Alec Baldwin for ‘infinite damages’ after he accidently killed her on set in New Mexico with a prop gun blast to her chest.

On October 21, 2021, Baldwin was holding a revolver on set in New Mexico during a rehearsal when it fired a live round, killing Hutchins.

Hutchins, according to Baldwin, asked him to point the gun just off camera and toward her armpit before it went off.

The shooting on the Bonanza Creek Ranch film set near Santa Fe also injured director Joel Souza.

The legal complaint, which was filed on Tuesday in New Mexico, seeks unspecified damages, including severe penalties.

Hutchins’ husband, Matthew Hutchins, and their young son, Andros, held a press conference in Los Angeles on Tuesday to announce the lawsuit against Baldwin and ‘others who are responsible for the safety on set, and whose reckless behavior and cost-cutting led to the senseless, tragic death of Halyna Hutchins.

At least three additional lawsuits have been filed in connection with the shooting, but this is the first one that is specifically linked to one of the two victims.
