Michael Jenning, a Childersburg preacher, was arrested over the weekend in May 2022 after watering his neighbour’s flowers, and he says it was a miscommunication that could have been handled differently.

Michael Jennings has been in ministry for more than 30 years and is the preacher at Vision of Abundant Life Ministries in Sylacauga.
Jennings walked over to his neighbour’s house to water the roses after church on Sunday, May 22. Another neighbour didn’t identify him and reported him to the cops as a suspicious person on the premises.

Officers arrived on the scene and made contact with Jennings, who was missing his identification. According to Jennings, he informed the officers of his identity and the reason for his visit.
“He says, ‘Give me some ID,’ and I said, ‘No, I don’t have to give you any ID because no crime has been done,’ Jennings explained.
When the first neighbour who phoned the police realised it was her friend and neighbour, she apologised and pleaded with officers not to arrest Jennings.
Jennings, on the other hand, was charged with obstructing government operations. He was arrested and taken to the Talladega County jail before being released.
