Oba Lamidi Adeyemi, the third Alaafin of Oyo, has passed away. On the night of Friday, April 22, the top Yoruba monarch died at the Afe Babalola University Teaching Hospital in Ado Ekiti. He was the longest-reigning monarch in Oyo, at 83 years old.

In the early hours of Saturday, April 23, the remains of the traditional ruler were brought to Oyo town, where he had ruled for 52 years, and traditional rites began.

According to reports, there were plans to fly the monarch, who had been ill in another country before passing away late Friday night. His ticket, as well as those of a few wives, had already been purchased before his death.
Alaafin Adeyemi was born Lamidi Olayiwola Atanda Adeyemi on October 15, 1938, in the famous Oyo town’s Alowolodu Royal House. On November 18, 1970, he was crowned, succeeding Oba Gbadegesin Ladigbolu I. He was popularly known as Iku Baba Yeye.
