The Egyptian and Tunisian powerhouses secured their berths in the final with thrilling semi-final triumphs over TP Mazembe and Mamelodi Sundowns, respectively, following intense second-leg encounters held on Friday night.

Al Ahly showcased a remarkable late surge to overcome Mazembe with a 3-0 victory in Cairo on Friday night. Meanwhile, Esperance maintained their composure to secure a 1-0 win over Sundowns in Pretoria, ultimately qualifying with a 2-0 aggregate scoreline.

Al Ahly, boasting a record 11-time championship triumph, will undoubtedly be favored by many as they aim for an unprecedented fourth Champions League title in five years. However, they are acutely aware of the substantial challenge posed by the Tunisian giants and understand that underestimating them would be unwise.

Only four years ago, Esperance stunned the Egyptian giants in the 2018 final, clinching victory and securing two consecutive titles, highlighting their capability to disrupt Al Ahly’s ambitions.

With the first leg scheduled for Tunis on May 18th, followed by the return match in Cairo a week later, a monumental clash looms between two formidable continental powerhouses who are no strangers to high-stakes battles.

For Al Ahly, the task ahead is evident – to uphold their remarkable standard of performance on Africa’s grandest stage by outclassing their longstanding adversaries from across the Mediterranean.

Marcel Koller’s star-studded team, guided by the unstoppable Percy Tau, showcased their resilience in big matches with a dramatic comeback against Mazembe. Despite the setback of a disallowed goal, they managed to rally and secure a comfortable victory in the end.

In contrast, Esperance reached the final through a challenging path, demonstrating resilience under intense pressure to fend off Mamelodi Sundowns and maintain their narrow first-leg lead in Tunis.

Coach Miguel Cardoso has ingrained his trademark resilience and tactical discipline into his team, qualities they will undoubtedly need to draw upon in order to defy expectations and challenge the dominant force in African club football.

After delivering standout performances in both semi-final matchups, Amanullah Memmich is poised to play a crucial role in Esperance’s quest to cause an upset, especially considering his inspired form between the goalposts.

All the necessary elements are in place for a final of the highest caliber, one that will determine the new champions of African football.
