Akani Simbine is a sprinter from South Africa who specializes in the 100m. He finished fifth in the men’s 100m at the 2016 Summer Olympics and held the African mark for the 100m with a time of 9.84 seconds set in July 2021 until it was broken by Ferdinand Omanyala in September 2021.

Simbine was a World Championships finalist in the men’s 100m in 2017 (fifth) and 2019 (fourth) and was the African Championships and Commonwealth Games 100m champion in 2018.

Simbine finished fourth in a timing of 9.93 seconds at the 2020 Summer Olympics, held in Tokyo, Japan, on August 1.
