Aisha Yesufu Explains Why She Refused to Stand to Nigerian’s New Reinstated National Anthem

Prominent activist, Aisha Yesufu, shares her thoughts on the new National Anthem after a video surfaced of her seated during its recitation at an event.

It is worth remembering that the human rights activist was recently observed seated, declining to stand up during a recitation of the new National Anthem.

In a video that surfaced online, a journalist interviewed her to gather her thoughts on the new anthem.

She remarked that, as far as she’s concerned, there is no distinction between the new and old National Anthems, as the only anthem she recognizes is “Arise, O Compatriots.”

The activist proceeded to criticize politicians for prioritizing trivial matters over more pressing issues such as the declining GDP, inadequate security, and the mass exodus of companies from Nigeria.

She affirmed that she doesn’t recognize the ‘We Hail Thee’ anthem and only acknowledges ‘Arise O Compatriots.’
