Aïcha Chenna (born 14 August 1941 – 25 September 2022) was a Moroccan social worker, women’s rights advocate, and activist. A registered nurse, she began working with disadvantaged women as an employee of the country’s Ministry of Health.

Aicha Chenna, Morocco’s iconic and influential activist died on Sunday at a hospital in Casablanca. His cause of death is not yet revealed. Chenna was frequently seen as a controversial figure for helping single mothers, who have babies out of wedlock. The activist acknowledged that she received death threats several times from people who accused her of “promoting prostitution.

In 2000, the activist faced a fatwa after her appearance in an interview with Aljazeera to defend the rights of single mothers.

Chenna frequently defended her ​​goal by saying: “We do not encourage women to have sex and get pregnant out of wedlock. But any woman has the right to protection.”

She said that such unwanted pregnancies happen as a result of “unaccomplished engagement or marriage rape, or a love story built on a lie,” adding that a woman who leaves their newborn babies in the street “is one who got to a point where her mind is so messed up and she needs help.”
