Ahmad Jamal passed away in Ashley Falls, Mass., after a battle with prostate cancer on April 16 2023, at the age of 92. His death was confirmed by his daughter Sumayah Jamal.
Ahmad Jamal began playing the piano at a young age. In the 1950s, Ahmad Jamal moved to Chicago and formed his own trio, which became very popular in the jazz scene.

His most famous album, “At the Pershing: But Not for Me,” was recorded live at the Pershing Hotel in Chicago in 1958.
The album sold one million copies and stayed on the Billboard magazine charts for more than 100 weeks, making Jamal a household name at a time when rock’n’roll was on the rise and jazz was on the decline.
Ahmad Jamal also won numerous awards, including a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2017, and has been recognized for his contributions to the jazz genre.
