The election of Afenyo-Markin, who was hitherto the Leader of Ghana’s Delegation to the sub-regional body was by consensus at a ceremony held at the ECOWAS Parliament in Abuja, Nigeria, today Thursday, April 4, 2024.

Afenyo-Markin has played an Instrumental role in getting the ECOWAS Parliament to convene in Ghana on two occasions at Winneba in his constituency. His consistency in attending the sitting of the ECOWAS Parliament has been a testament to his rise.

In February the Majority in Parliament appointed Alexander Afenyo-Markin as their leader after Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu resigned from the position after years of occupying the seat.
The ECOWAS Parliament, also known as the Community Parliament, is one of the Institutions of ECOWAS. It is the Assembly of Peoples of the Community serving as a forum for dialogue, consultation, and consensus for Representatives of the people of West Africa to promote integration.
