He was raised by his mother, Deborah Jones, and grandmother, Christine Jones. His father was an amateur boxer in Atlanta.

Adam Jones’ father was killed at the age of 26 in a robbery in 1991. As a boy growing up in Atlanta’s Sandtown neighbourhood, he was trained by longtime Sandtown coach Gary Jones.

Jones’ grandmother died of cancer while he was a student at West Virginia University. Jones only missed one game during his three-year college tenure to attend her burial.

He was selected by the Tennessee Titans in the first round of the 2005 NFL Draft. Throughout his career, he also had stints with the Dallas Cowboys, Cincinnati Bengals, and Denver Broncos.

Although he showed promise on the field, Jones’ career was marred by numerous off-field incidents, including arrests and suspensions.

In addition to his time in the NFL, Jones also played in various other football leagues and continued his career in the Canadian Football League (CFL).
