Barbara O. Jones, who emerged as a prominent figure from the L.A. Rebellion movement of Black filmmakers at UCLA in the 1970s, died on Tuesday, April 16, 2024, at her home in Dayton, Ohio, according to her brother Raymond Minor.

Jones starred in Haile Gerima’s “Bush Mama” and Julie Dash’s “Daughters of the Dust,” showcasing her talent and versatility.

She portrayed various compelling characters, including an imprisoned woman fighting for social justice and a welfare recipient undergoing an ideological transformation.
