Abraham Kiptum, one of the most well-known and wealthy runners, was born in Nandi, Kenya, on September 15, 1989. In his first marathon, Kiptum finished third with a timing of 2:11:36 at the Rabat Marathon in 2015. He cut 70 seconds off his previous best time from the 2017 Amsterdam Marathon.

A Provisional Suspension against Kiptum for a violation of the IAAF Anti-Doping Rules using a Athlete Biological Passport (ABP) was verified by the Athletics Integrity Unit on April 26, 2019.

Due to the punishment, Kiptum withdrew from the 2019 London Marathon. A four-year suspension and the expungement of results were affirmed on November 11 of that same year. Race timings recorded by Kiptum dating back to October 13, 2018, were invalidated.
