Despite facing challenges, Spanberger displayed political prowess by securing reelection victories in both 2020 and 2022.
Following the 2020 United States redistricting cycle, she faced a redrawn district that no longer included her home in Henrico County. Undaunted, she ran for reelection, emphasizing her resilience in navigating electoral changes.
Recognized as one of the most vulnerable incumbents in the 2022 election cycle, Spanberger faced a close race against Republican Yesli Vega.
However, in the general election, she showcased her political strength by securing 52% of the vote against Vega’s 48%.
In November 2023, Abigail Spanberger declared her retirement from the House. This decision is coupled with an ambitious move as she sets her sights on the governorship of Virginia.
