Abby Zwerner Shooting: What Happened?

Abby Zwerner was shot in her chest and hand, with a 9mm Taurus pistol, by her 6-year-old male student.

The minor shooter, upon interrogation, revealed that the gun belonged to his mother.

The incident occurred at Richneck Elementary School in Newport News, Virginia.

Police Reports show that the shooting was intentional, because Zwerner’s attempt to initially confiscate the weapon from the child shooter failed.

Who Is Abby Zwerner?

Zwerner who is a 25-year old graduate of James Madison University. She had been teaching a lesson in class on January 6, 2023, when the minor pulled the trigger.

She has been declared medically stable and in good condition. The child shooter has been arrested and is currently in police custody.

The school has also been shut down temporarily till further notice.

The ugly incidence has been described as the first U.S. school shooting in 2023, and one of sixteen U.S. school shootings carried out by shooters age 10 since 1970.
