Aaron Mooy and his wife Nicola Mooy had their first child on November 25, 2015. Aaron and Nicola became parents for the second time in 2018 when their second child was born.

Mooy began his professional career in Australia, playing for various A-League clubs, including Western Sydney Wanderers, Melbourne City, and Newcastle Jets.
He has played for several clubs, including Manchester City in England, where he spent time with their youth team and had loan spells at other clubs such as Huddersfield Town.
Mooy was signed permanently by Premier League club Brighton & Hove Albion in January 2020 before moving to Shanghai SIPG in China in August 2020. Mooy signed a two-year contract with Celtic on July 19, 2022.
Mooy announced his retirement with immediate effect on June 30, 2023.
