A.B. Yehoshua, Israeli author Cause of Death

Abraham B. Yehoshua an Israeli novelist, essayist, and playwright passed away on June 14, 2022.  He was 85 years old at the time. His death was announced by Icilov Hospital in Tel Aviv, Israel.  The cause of death was not disclosed.

He is survived by his three children, Sivan, Gideon, and Nahum.

Yehoshua was a writer, essayist, and dramatist who received Israel’s highest cultural award, the Israel Prize, in 1995, as well as dozens of other honours, including the Bialik Prize and the Jewish National Book Award, and his work has been translated into 28 languages.

Beyond his writings, Yehoshua was a key voice in the Israeli peace camp, joining other authors Amoz Oz and David Grossman in calling for a negotiated settlement to the Palestinian-Israeli issue that would result in the establishment of an independent Palestinian state.

Yehoshua was “one of the great writers and storytellers of the state of Israel,” according to Israeli President Isaac Herzog, whose “unforgettable works will continue to accompany us for decades.”
